ABOUT A FAMILY AFFAIR RENTALS
Family, Reimagined
Life’s best moments don’t just happen—they’re designed with intention, style, and to foster a sense of connection. Those aren’t just designer sofas and statement-making accents in our rental inventory—they’re the connection points that your strongest, fondest memories will be built upon.
At AFA, we’re honored to help shape those moments. Our curated collection is designed to exceed expectations and empower you to celebrate with intention — composing events that are unapologetically bold, beautifully unforgettable, and entirely your own.
“Paula has the uncanny ability to hear a rough idea or sketchy thought and make it into a beautiful and breathtaking reality. She was professional, organized, kind, and creative. We are eternally grateful to her and the entire A Family Affair team.”
— Alison & Steven, couple
The Style Makers
Family isn’t just our foundation—it’s our secret ingredient. Led by a team of trend setters, artists, and craftsmen, our team blends deep-rooted values with fearless design, resulting in events that are as unforgettable as they are beautifully personal.
Paula Cano
Creative Director & Lead Designer
Paula launched A Family Affair in 2010 with a vision rooted in connection, creativity, and purpose. After 15 years in the catering world, becoming a mother sparked something deeper—a calling to design experiences that feel personal, bold, and beautifully human.
She leads with quiet confidence and sharp intuition, curating spaces that invite joy, spark wonder, and honor the art of celebration. Known for her intentional eye and eclectic edge, Paula has grown AFA into a sought-after creative studio—where values aren’t just talked about, they’re woven into every detail.
Her work reflects what she lives: authenticity over ego, kindness over flash, and the belief that the most meaningful gatherings are designed with heart.
Pete Turner
Operations & Project Manager
Pete has been part of A Family Affair since day one—building furniture, managing logistics, and quietly holding it all together behind the scenes while balancing a 25-year career with the State of Maine. In 2022, he retired from public service and stepped fully into the business, taking the reins as Operations & Project Manager.
With a sharp mind for systems and a true craftsman’s touch, Pete oversees our rental inventory, coordinates our delivery teams, and brings custom projects to life with care and precision. He’s the reason our timelines hold, our builds stand strong, and our signature setups arrive on time and look effortless.
More than that, Pete is Paula’s partner in every sense of the word—equal parts support system, sounding board, and problem-solver. Together, they’ve grown AFA into a force, powered by family values, relentless dedication, and a shared vision for doing things differently.
Jordan Crowley
Designer
Jordan’s passion for design started long before her professional career. Some of her earliest memories involve creating bold fashion moments and reimagining her childhood bedroom, often and with great enthusiasm. This innate ability to transform a space followed her through every dorm room, apartment and home, inspiring her to complete her education and launch her own business, Rubble Rhyme. She brings vibrancy into every project she tackles and we are so gifted with her talents on our team.
Ananta Turner
Artist & Inventory Manager
Ana joined the team in 2021 to support the family business. What began as a part time position to support her mom and learn important money making strategies soon became an outlet for her own creative endeavors. Ana is a gifted painter, sketch artist, sculptor and photographer. The AFA team has loved watching her grow along with the business and we’re proud to have her support and talents in the AFA family.
Causes We Adore
Family Values
A deep love for family and desire to put them first is how we ended up starting this business in the first place. From offering flexible hours, to building our showroom on family land, to treating our clients like they’re part of the crew, family values couldn’t be more important to us.
Sustainability
Whether it’s breathing new life into an old piece of furniture, or rescuing an antique from an estate sale, we believe in second changes and making business decisions with layered social, economic, and environmental impact.
Our Community
From artists to woodworkers to photographers, we actively partner with our local community and infuse their creativity into our collection. We’re proud to collaborate with the Portland Art Museum, Equality Maine, Indigo Arts Alliance, and others. Together, we’re small but mighty businesses fighting against the big guys.
“Their team is top notch, communicative and full of love and attention for each event.”
— Mia, bride
For us, it’s the chance to work with family, to have an outlet for our creativity, to use our work to support causes we care about, and to help you design a life that you love.
